my audacity started crashing anytime i resized the window late on friday night. i came very close to losing everything at the last minute. i could probably never have gone back to ds106
Yeah, audacity can be more than a little unintuitive sometimes. My two least favorite things:
* Copy your project to a USB drive to give to your partner, and finding out later than audacity didn’t bother to copy all those whiz-bang sound effects into your project folder, so now your partner is missing them.
* Dragging clips around to time-shift them is pretty neat, but what if I want to reposition several clips across multiple tracks all by the same amount? 🙁
This is exactly what Audacity is. One of my group members used GarageBand and the quality difference was incredible- the interface of Audacity definitely put limits on what I felt was feasible in terms of my own work.
I have to say I’ve never worked with an audio program before so I enjoyed experimenting with audacity……until it started crashing on us while trying to finalize the show and then refused to open it’s own .aup files. Might be good to see what other free ones are out there, but overall I think there’s a lot you can do with audacity. Gotta love the image!!!!!!
So, is this a subtle way of letting me know I need to recommend a better tool? 🙂
yeah just a little. it’s nice that’s it free, but still such a PITA sometimes!
Oh dear…we’ve all been in a situations like this before! Good to see you were able to ‘use your anger’ in a positive way! 🙂

yeah I felt the same! I spent so much time working on it that if I lost everything I would have refused to try again. thank gods it all saved alright!

plus all the files and folders, I started to lose track of which clip was which!
AHHHH!!! i feel the pain!!!
Wait really? Did we have a horrible experience with audacity?
Other than my own inability to remember that you can use any of the functions while it was paused, I thought it wasn’t too bad!
Of course, our radio show was pretty straightforward to put together.
Yes, yes, a million times yes.
