Day 90: 30 second Smash

Day 90’s assignment was “Make a pinata and destroy it! Bonus: have a party specifically for the occasion.”

Back in February my family celebrated Sibling 1’s birthday.  In her honor we busted a pinata I’ve got in elementary school. This video documents our unsuccessful attempts to SMASH that sucker.

The shaky video quality was due to me laughing while holding the camera… too funny.

Day 117: Troll Quotes

Day 117’s assignment was “Go out of your way. Travel somewhere you wouldn’t normally go today specifically to create something inspired by that location.”

Today I was going to adventure to the library so I decided to put something funny in one of the books. Continue reading

Day 97: Bentley cordially invites you

Day 97’s assignment was “Make an invitation to an everyday event you wouldn’t normally invite people to. Bonus: Actually send them out.”

for Charlotte

To make this I did a two step process. First I went into Pixlr and created a simple blank template which I then colored blue. Following this I went to Pixlr express and added the background and the white border. Then I crossed back into normal Pixlr and added the text and the photo (taken after a hike up a mountain when Mr. B was cooling himself off in a little puddle of rainwater).

Day 95: Not a Shakespearean quality sonnet

Day 95: “Ask a stranger for a suggestion of what to do today. Explaining what you’re up to is part of the experience! Bonus: Get them involved in the actual thing you make.”

It is kind of hard to explain to a perfect stranger what am I doing. The few times I have tried I’ve gotten blank stares and then an incredulous look like “Why are you wasting your time with that.” Clearly I have not been surrounded by creative types lately. :/

Instead, I asked a friend for a suggestion; she thought I should do a ds106 assignment I haven’t done before.

The opportunity to do this day’s assignment arose yesterday when I found a poem I wrote in my English class in 10th grade. It was supposed to be in the style of a Shakespearean sonnet. I decided I would record myself reading it for Audio Assignment84: “Record yourself reading from a diary/journal/letter you wrote when you were a teenager. Try to capture the emotion and angst of the moment. Add music and sound effects, as appropriate.”

Getting out of a creative slump & Day 81: Horatio CSI Meme

Lately I’ve been in a creative slump and it’s been bad. Once you fall behind on a bunch of assignments, it’s hard to catch up or want to catch up. You start to develop this sort of apathy about making anything.

There is no point. No one cares. I am Jack’s wasted life.

Yesterday I was 14 days behind on assignments and I knew this was the turning point. If I didn’t start doing assignments again, my work for the past few months would be worthless. Continue reading
